Groen, Kluka & Company’s William Barnes Earns CDFA Certification

TROY, Michigan – January 12, 2004 – William (Bill) Barnes, CPA, CFPTM, MST has recently completed a specialized educational program in professional divorce planning and as a result is now a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA).

Bill has been with Groen, Kluka & Company, P.C. since 2001 and focuses his efforts on tax compliance, tax planning and financial planning. His work as a CDFA will also help to contribute to the firm’s Business Valuation and Litigation Support practice.

“All of our professionals are encouraged to gain expertise in multiple areas and (Bill) is a perfect example of this,” said Groen, Kluka & Company, P.C. Managing Partner Jeffrey J. Groen. “He brings an extremely high level of experience and competence with a Master’s Degree in Taxation and has supplemented that work with his experience in wealth management and now is independently certified to analyze the financial aspects of divorce cases.”

With the certification, Barnes has shown that he is trained specifically to provide financial information and assistance to people in divorce including evaluating the tax implications of dividing property and the settlement options for dividing pensions, marital property, and awarding of child and spousal support.

The Institute for Certified Divorce Planners directs the certification process. The institute trains professionals, comprised of CPAs, financial planners and attorneys, to determine the financial needs and outcomes for couples following a divorce.

Barnes has 17 years of various taxation and financial planning experience, including 9 years with two of the Big Four accounting firms, KPMG and Deloitte & Touche, where he served in a tax management capacity.

Barnes earned his Bachelor's of Accounting, as well as his Master's in Taxation from Walsh College in Troy, Michigan. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Michigan Association of Public Accountants (MACPA) where he is active in the Federal Tax Task Force Committee and the Personal Financial Planning Task Force Committee, Financial Planning Association (FPA) and Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts

(IDFA). Bill is also active in the Sterling Heights, Shelby Township and Utica Chamber of Commerce and is on the CPA Associates International Tax Committee for 2004.
